Woman offered deal on own grave

A Norwegian funeral services home reportedly sent a letter to a woman containing an offer to engrave her name on a tombstone

Solveig Gronstad was shocked to read a letter from Ellinggard Steinindustri addressed to her "next of kin" which said: "Through a newspaper announcement we have learned that one of your nearest has passed away - our condolences", reports Aftenposten

The letter next went on to offer to engrave her name on a stone for £327.

The 75-year old told newspaper Hamar Arbeiderblad: "I got a shock when I read the letter. This is tragicomic. I am alive and kicking. At the same time, I think it is terrible that things like this happen, they shouldn't."

It is reported the company has now apologised for the gaffe.

Spokesman Per Einar Ellinggard said: "This is extremely regrettable and should not happen. We can do nothing but apologize. I don't know enough about this, but it probably has to do with two people having the same name."
