Pulling The Plug
I have said for years that if I were ever in a vegetative state I would want to die rather than live such a life, but the last thirteen days has made me question that decision. I have trouble reconciling the fact that brain damaged patients are allowed to starve to death to appease the consciences of the medical community. Murderers are allowed to die by lethal injection because it is humane. We are allowed to put down our ailing pets as a show of compassion and yet we refuse to allow the same respect for innocent people whose crime is to be ravaged by disease? The very thought of watching a loved one dehydrate and waste to the point of no return must be excruciating. It becomes torture for the family by its slowness while each second that passes goes by too quickly. It strikes me that there is something wrong with a society that vilifies
a medical person who takes aggresive action to stop the suffering early. Individuals should not only have a right to die, they should have a right to die in a manner of their choosing.

See, I agree 100% with that. I cannot believe anyone in their right mind would say, "She didn't want to be kept alive like this", so let's just starve her to death! I think it is down right digusting!
Came in through Blog Explosion, you have a pretty cool site so far! I will be back!

Absolutely! Visit any ICU in the country and you will see people starve to death, suffocate to death, die from kidney failure, etc, because we insist on disconnecting machines and then waiting for them to die horribly, rather than give lethal injections to "innocent" people. There is something very wrong with this system.
On an unrelated note, you may want to change your settings so anyone can post, not just people with blogger accounts.
Well see it sounds terrible, but I assume that you'd be pretty drugged up and so wouldn't actually suffer at all. I was told by someone who's father was taken off a feeding tube that it was actually very peaceful
